Emmerdale wedding postponed after dramatic exit plot

Emmerdale spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (April 4), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale‘s Liam Cavanagh and Chas Dingle make a sad decision about their wedding in Friday’s episode.

The couple reluctantly put their big day on hold after the recent chaos surrounding Liam’s ex-partner Ella Forster.

Ella was arrested last night after a frightening showdown with Liam in the woods, which culminated in the local doctor being pushed to the ground and hitting his head.

Earlier, Ella had also briefly held Mandy Dingle at knifepoint after breaking into her home and demanding to see Liam.

While it’s clear that Ella’s behaviour had taken an erratic turn due to the pressure she was under, she continued to firmly deny being responsible for some other strange incidents in the village.

This created uncertainty for Emmerdale viewers over whether Ella had really been responsible for causing Chas’s collapse by tampering with her medication. She also rubbished claims that she’d smashed a window at The Woolpack.

In Friday’s episode, Liam takes a sympathetic approach to Ella’s troubles by encouraging Mandy and Chas to both drop police charges against her. He insists that Ella is “redeemable” and deserves another chance.

Mandy refuses to give Ella a pass for holding her at knifepoint, but Chas agrees to withdraw her own statement to avoid a long and drawn-out legal case.

Just as Liam hopes he and Chas are on the same page, however, she drops a bombshell over their plans for a May wedding.

Chas explains: “I think we should put the wedding plans on hold. Do you not think it’s been tainted by it all?

“Yesterday, when you told me that she’d confessed, I genuinely believed that we’d get our new start. That we’d be free of her. But now she’s saying she’s innocent, it’s just going to hang over us, isn’t it? We need to postpone it.”

Asked how long for, Chas replies: “However long it takes. Our big day should be perfect. [We shouldn’t be] scared that she’s going to gatecrash and ruin it all.”

Emmerdale airs these scenes tonight at the earlier time of 7pm on ITV1, or the episode is available to watch right now on ITVX.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
