Emmerdale spoilers follow from Wednesday’s episode (April 2), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Emmerdale confirms details of Cathy Hope’s temporary departure storyline in Wednesday’s episode.
Cathy is about to take a break from our screens, as young cast member Gabrielle Dowling is stepping away for a short time to focus on her A-level exams.
In the latest visit to the Dales, it’s revealed that Cathy is about to spend three months sailing the seas with her former stepmum Brenda Walker.
Brenda recently discovered that she’d won a round-the-world cruise in a magazine competition.

She’d entered the contest when she was still in a happy relationship with Eric Pollard, so felt reluctant to go ahead with the holiday after their sad break-up.
Over the past few days, Nicola King has got carried away with the idea that Brenda could invite her along for the trip of a lifetime.
Tonight, though, Nicola’s dreams go up in smoke as Brenda puts everyone out of their misery by officially naming her plus-one.
Speaking to Nicola at The Woolpack, she reveals: “I’m taking Cathy now that she’s left college. Despite why you said it, you’re right – it would make a good girls’ trip.”

She adds: “I’d better go and tell Cathy to start packing.”
Gabrielle Dowling has been part of the Emmerdale cast since 2007, taking on the role of Cathy when she was a newborn baby.
She’s expected to be away from Emmerdale for a short break while she concentrates on her studies.
Lesley Dunlop, who plays Brenda, is leaving the soap permanently after 17 years in the role. News of her departure was first revealed in November last year.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
