Coronation Street newcomer promises huge surprises in Todd story

Coronation Street star Natalie Anderson has teased some upcoming shocks from her character Danielle Silverton.

Viewers met Danielle for the first time in tonight’s episode (April 7), who was introduced to Todd Grimshaw and George Shuttleworth by her husband Theo Silverton as they arrived at the undertakers to arrange her mum’s funeral.

The introduction was a surprise to fans and Todd alike, who believed he was in a new relationship with Theo. However, Theo later explains he’s been married for 19 years but has known he is gay his whole life.

Anderson – who has previously starred in Emmerdale and Harlan Coben‘s Netflix drama Fool Me Once – admitted she was “delighted and honoured” to be joining the cast of Coronation Street, promising an exciting character and plenty of drama for fans.

“There’s the secrets, the family unit, the presentational side of things, her upbringing,” she said. “Getting to play all those layers in one woman is so incredible and why I’m absolutely loving playing her.”

With regards to her husband’s big secret, Anderson revealed Danielle is pretty much clueless to the truth.

“I think she’s aware that all isn’t well but I don’t think his secret is what she’s alluding to in any way,” she says. “I don’t think she’s thinking it’s anything more than the strains of a long term marriage.”

Danielle’s suspicions will see huge surprises in store for the Todd and Theo storyline, with another character set to receive some heat.

Danielle is introduced to Todd and Sarah Platt as a couple by Theo – and it’s Sarah that she takes umbrage with.

“Danielle is a very judgemental character, she’s judgy from the off, she’s always looking people up and down and straight away she gets a vibe from Sarah that something is off,” she said.

“But she really likes Todd, she thinks that he’s lovely, he’s kind, probably too good for Sarah. I think it’s that she’s possibly reading that this isn’t a genuine relationship and Danielle’s head is immediately going to Sarah as the one who maybe isn’t as invested.”

In another shocking twist, Danielle is set to accuse Sarah of having an affair with Theo and will issue a stark warning to her.

“Coming from the background she has come from a lot is about how you present yourself and how they present themselves as a family, no matter what they have to stick together and present this idea of a happy unit,” Anderson said.

“Danielle’s not going to let anyone get in the way of that, so that would be the warning she’s giving Sarah, that this is not just my man but my family.”

As for Danielle discovering the real affair between Theo and Todd, Anderson thinks her character’s reaction will be extreme.

“I think if the secret was to come out I can’t imagine she’s going to take it very well,” she said. “She’s a woman dealing with a lot of very intense emotions right now.”
