Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver addresses final scenes as Eileen Grimshaw

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has opened up about filming her final scenes as Eileen Grimshaw as she prepares to exit the ITV soap.

Back in January, Cleaver announced that she would be stepping away from the soap after 25 years on the cobbles.

Appearing on yesterday’s Loose Women, Cleaver revealed that she filmed her last scenes in Weatherfield on Friday, bidding her character an emotional farewell.

“Friday was my final day on the cobbles, and it was so emotional,” she told the panel, revealing that Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, had arranged a special night out for the cast.

“I had a lovely time,” she said. “On Thursday night, Antony Cotton arranged a lovely dinner out. He’d arranged a private dinner, and there was 12 of us. We had a lovely time, and then we finished up filming on Friday.”

Asked by panellist Denise Welch what it felt like to leave Corrie behind, Cleaver said: “It felt right. On Friday, I felt very wobbly, and I had to get the train down here [London], and I was feeling very, very wobbly and strange about it. I literally woke up Saturday morning, and I thought, ‘Yeah, it’s time. That’s it. I’m going forward.'”

Speaking about leaving the soap, Cleaver revealed that Eileen’s exit scenes will be aired in “late May or June.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the soap star revealed that she was having “really intense dreams” about being “murdered” before she shot her final scenes.

“It was so weird, because I just didn’t know how I was going to feel, but all week, I’ve been having really intense dreams of being murdered, and a lot of dreams with carving knives,” she said.

“I looked it up, and it’s, like, carving knives, it’s about severance.”
