Home and Away star Cameron Daddo shares “sobering” health scare

Home and Away star Cameron Daddo has opened up about the “sobering” health scare he had last year.

During a new interview with the Daily Telegraph, the beloved actor revealed that his doctor discovered three hidden aneurysms during a CT scan he underwent for an unrelated “tummy issue”.

“Sobering words when delivered by your specialist,” he said (via MailOnline). “They told me if they hadn’t found them when they did, they would have only been found post-mortem.”

The actor continued: “There was no reason for me to go to the doctor other than I had a sore belly – but that was because I had a parasite because I ingested dirty water at the beach.

“The GP, bless him, he picked it up, sent me to a specialist. The specialist said ‘You have to get these aneurisms taken care of because there’s a good chance you may not make it through next year’.”

Daddo revealed that he underwent surgery to insert ten stents to improve blood flow from his heart to his legs, and spent several days in intensive care afterwards.

“So I’m all connected, I’m plumbed, and the blood is running the way it needs to and the aneurisms are now all protected and I’m back to 100 per cent health,” he added.

Daddo originally played the role of Evan Slater on Home and Away back in 2020, before making a brief but dramatic return later that same year as Evan’s twin brother Owen.

“Fortunately, I had some time between playing the two characters. I was able to put Evan ‘to bed’ and then create the backstory of Owen,” Daddo said when it was announced he would be returning.

“Thankfully, I never played the two at the same time. Now that would have been fun! I was thrilled when the idea of Owen was pitched to me.”

Daddo previously spoke to Digital Spy about his original exit as Evan, admitting it was “bittersweet”, and had hoped there would be a way to extend his stay.
